Former Norwalk attorney accused of stealing $1.85M from clients gets plea offer

State’s Attorney Paul Ferencek said Superior Court Judge John F. Blawie conveyed an offer Tuesday to Carl Ferraro during a pretrial conference.

Outside the courtroom, Ferraro’s attorney, Christian Young of Bridgeport-based firm Cohen & Wolf, said Blawie offered his client a minimum of five years, and a maximum of 10 years, to serve in custody in exchange for a guilty plea.

Ferraro, a Darien resident, is next scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Jan. 12, where he is expected to either accept or reject the offer.

Norwalk police charged Ferraro on July 6, 2022, with eight counts of first-degree larceny. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, court records indicate.

The former attorney practiced law in Connecticut for more than 30 years until his license was suspended in March 2022 during an investigation that led to the charges. In April, he resigned from the state bar and waived his privilege to seek readmission.

While running his Norwalk-based practice, Ferraro allegedly stole more than $1.85 million from eight clients. Court documents allege he held some clients’ money in escrow from real estate transactions and, in other instances, failed to hand over profits from real estate transactions.

The alleged theft occurred between November 2021 and March 2022. Ferraro is accused of stealing between $68,800 and $922,536 from each client.

Ferraro is being held in lieu of a total $1 million bail, according to court records. While in custody, Ferraro has had a lot of time to reflect on the incident and is “experiencing a great deal of remorse” for all parties involved, Young said Tuesday.
