Local realtors expecting traditional ‘spring housing season’ to make return

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Many are eagerly awaiting the return of spring, including realtors as this time of year also marks the start of the spring housing market.

Local housing experts say there are signs we could see a more traditional buying and selling season return.

Historically, real estate has a season from mid-March through September that tracks with the warmer weather, but for the last few years that hasn’t been the case.

Now, experts say it appears the market could be moving back towards a regular season.

One realtor says, for the last four years, the market has been a nonstop frenzy instead of having on and off seasons.

It’s still a sellers market, but houses are sitting for a few months instead of immediately being bought within hours of being listed.

While interest rates are still higher than they were two years ago, realtor Cody Cummings believes that this return to a more traditional market makes it a good time to buy.

“It’s the first time where we can just get in the truck and see 10, 12, 15 homes and shop,” Cummings said. “I think in that way its much better for buyers because they have the opportunity to go and find a house and not fall in love with it, and then lose it.”

Cummings adds that whether you’re buying or selling this spring, make sure you do your research into realtors to make sure you’re getting one who’s reputable and experienced.
