A Simi Valley man faces multiple felony charges for allegedly committing theft and fraud that led to a victim losing her home.

According to Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko, Lane Yudell, a former real estate agent, was arrested April 24 by the Simi Valley Police Department’s special enforcement team.

Yudell, 57, was charged with three counts of grand theft, seven counts of forgery, three counts of money laundering and several special allegations for taking advantage of a position of trust and confidence to target a victim who is particularly vulnerable, the DA said in a statement.

From February 2016 through August 2019, Yudell allegedly made multiple false statements which caused the victim to relinquish possession and ownership of her Thousand Oaks home.

Additionally, the DA said Yudell is accused of stealing the sale proceeds from the victim’s residence then laundering those funds through multiple bank accounts.

According to a criminal complaint, the alleged violations were discovered in 2020 when the victim worked for Yudell. When she ran her personal credit report, she saw multiple late payments were made in 2018 and 2019 on her mortgage and that she was potentially the victim of identity theft.

Yudell also allegedly forged the signature of a second victim on real estate transactions in Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

The case involved extensive investigation by the SVPD, the DA’s real estate fraud unit and is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Dominic Kardum.

Inmate records show Yudell, who is self-employed, was released on $30,000 bail shortly after he was booked in jail April 24.

Arraignment was scheduled for May 8 in Ventura County Superior Court.

According to court records, Yudell appeared in front of Judge David Hirsch via Zoom with his attorney, Margarette Mow. He did not make a plea.

The Acorn reached out to Mow, but she did not respond to requests for comment as of Thursday’s deadline.

The arraignment was continued to June 13.
