Listing of the Day

Location: Payson, Arizona

Price: $6.125 million

This Arizona dude ranch about 90 minutes from Phoenix offers seven houses, a roping and horseback riding arena, a helicopter pad, a tree house and a fully stocked fishing pond.

The ranch is owned by the Earnhardt family, which owns a chain of auto dealerships in the state, and the compound takes its name, No Toro Ranch, after the Earnhardt automotive empire’s motto “no bull,” according to the listing agency, Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty. It was previously known as La Cienega Ranch.

“It’s a very unique property, a 78-acre dude ranch surrounded by national forest,” said listing agent Nancy Read. “It’s a rare find, a wonderful opportunity for all kinds of different uses. It’s now used by the Earnhardt family as a cowboy camp.”

They converted a former tennis court into a riding arena with electric chutes, she said. “It’s a well-maintained property.”

“They move a lot of their cattle through depending on the season and the time of year,” she said. “They have been cattle ranchers for generations. They are well known in Arizona because of their car dealerships.”

“They say that they price fairly and they don’t haggle,” and that’s where the “no bull” motto comes from, Read said.

Would-be buyers are mostly interested in the property as a family compound, she said. “We had one person looking at it for a summer ranch camp and some individuals who are passionate about hunting. You can ride off-property into the national forest.”

Of the seven residences, ranging from the main house and so-called Mother-In-Law House to a manager’s house, “all are custom site-built homes, except for a manufactured home that is used by the ranch hands,” Read said.

The two-level Main House, a rustic lodge, has 3,724 square feet of interior space, with the primary bedroom on the ground floor and a secondary bedroom and a loft upstairs, she said. There is also a full kitchen with a wet bar, a formal dining room and two family rooms, one of which is used as a rec room with a pool table.

Stats

The compound offers 14,989 square feet of interior space with 15 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms. The parcel measures 78 acres.

Amenities

Amenities include multiple fireplaces, a fire pit, a ramada, gazebos, a tree house, a wet bar, covered patios, garage space for nine cars, irrigated pastures, a fully stocked fishing pond, a helicopter pad, a barn, a tack room and a professional arena with electric chutes.

Neighborhood Notes

The ranch is nestled at the base of the Mogollon Rim, a 200-mile-long escarpment, according to the listing agency.

This part of Arizona “is a great summer escape because of the higher elevation,” Read said. “It can be 20 to 30 degrees cooler there in the summer.”

The town of Payson, which has shops, restaurants and a Home Depot, is 15 to 20 minutes from the ranch, she said. It’s about a 90-minute drive to Phoenix.
