Historic ‘airplane’ bungalow hits the market in Tampa’s Bayshore Beautiful neighborhood

[ad_1]

A 100-year-old craftsman-style bungalow specifically designed for Florida’s hot summers is now on the market in the Bayshore Beautiful neighborhood.

Located at 3001 W Chapin Ave., the home was built in 1918 for Netherlands vice consulate Jean R. van J. Blinck, and is what’s referred to as an “airplane-style” bungalow.

Popular between 1910-1925, airplane bungalows are known for their unique pop-up second story room that is said to resemble an airplane cockpit, and was meant to be a nice option for catching a cool breeze while sleeping at night.

Typically found in the southwest and west coast regions of the United States, the homes are somewhat rare in Florida, but a few still remain in local neighborhoods like St. Petersburg’s Historic Old Northeast, and in Tampa’s Hyde Park and Bayshore Beautiful.

This particular airplane bungalow comes with 2,701-square-feet of living space, as well as four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a double sided fire place, vaulted ceilings, a pool and spa, and more, says the listing.

The home also experienced a full-blown remodel in 2017, and now features new wood floors, electrical, plumbing and other upgrades.

The airplane bungalow is currently asking $1,599,000, and the listing agent is Mary Pond of Smith and Associates.
